S/C belt issues...

i dont have one, but i've been reading a lot about this problem. think i have a solution

remove the belt or at least get all the tension off of it and take it off the A/C pulley. with the A/C pulley bare, grab the A/C pulley in your hand and try to move it. mine moves ever so slightly. i can feel it move and hear it as well. at first i thought i was crazy and i had my friend watch who is a helicopter mechanic. he saw and heard it too. its very minute small movement, but this could be a part of our problem. i wonder if it is because the A/C is off and the clutch is not engaged. if the A/C were on and the clutch were engaged, there might not be this small movement.

thoughts?

I noticed with mine, I can rock the pulley just up and to the left of the power steering pump pulley. Even with tension on it, I can rock it all over the place. I'll have to check my a/c now too....

Does anyone have a AC pulley that easily turns or spins by hand?

Well, solution. Run on the track with your A/C on. Track manager won't like it, but maybe you'll throw less belts

was kinda thinking the same thing. if i can pull off power shifts with the A/C on, then we know the movement in the A/C pulley is to blame.

turn it on while staging and off at the end of the quarter mile, during shutdown and braking. shouldn't leak anything as there wont be enough time to form condensation on the lines and drip water everywhere.

Funny this should come up just now. I was under the car last night putting the front sway bar back on, and was looking at the A/C compressor. There are 4 bolts that seem to hold two halves of the unit together. I could have sworn that the two halves were cocked ever so slightly. Barely noticeable, and it could have been the bad lighting. I have not had belt problems, but I do get some rattle/grinding under the car at idle with the clutch out in neutral. It gets worse when I turn on the A/C. There is also a bit of the same noise at about 1900 RPM when I am accelerating very slowly. I thought it was just loose bearings on the transmission input shaft. It could still be, but maybe the cocked A/C unit is unbalancing things even more...
