Lightbulb 480rwhp/407rwtq with 4:30 gears

I am debating dropping down to 3:73's or maybe 3:90's because most of my encounters are on the highway and I am thinking the drop in gear will make me quicker.

Any thoughts?

keep the gears! with the power curve of a centri. blower, you want to keep the car in high rpm's to make the most power..

yea i've been meaning to ask this question as well. i'm kinda with Chawkins on this one. what do i do with these 4.10's when i'm running from like a 50-60 mph cruise?

i mean i always drop to 3rd, but it just seems like the car runs out of speed! it accels well, but it seems like i shift my car out of 3rd now at 90 mph, and 4th seems like its only at 110mph? something like that. but how am i supposed to pull on a Bowtie with that short burst of speed? it will pull past me after like 120mph lol. will higher HP and TQ numbers help this and give me more top end speed? need some help on this lol!

I would not spin my motor that high though, I spin mine to 6,200rpms max. I was running an EVO a week ago and he break boosted at the initial hit and I was playing catch up but ran out of gear in 4th and we all know 5th in these cars are a dog. So it does have a good initial hit but then maxes out so quick that it makes you slower I feel.

Right now I run 295-30-20's outback, so I am also thinking about running a 295-40-20 to take away some gear. That will make a nice difference I feel instead of doing a gear swap also.

I used a 285/35 18 and i thought it was fine...

yea when i first shifted to 5th it felt sluggush for a second or two... but as the RPM's climbed and i built boost again it was all good.

I have a friend with an 11sec. EVO and i had no trouble keeping up on the top end.

I also have a 96 Cobra with a Vortech on it in addition to the 05. I run 4:56 gears in it. It tops out 4th gear at around 128 mph but that it enough for most street encounters anyway and it will pull in 5th if need be. I would stay with the 4:30s and if you decide you want a little less I would go no lower than 4:10.

I think I am first going to try taller tires in the rear:

current = 295-30-20
proposed=295-40-20

That should give me some gear back.
