Question Gauge cluster

Hey all,

Seems I'm having a bit of an issue with my gauge cluster. Purchased the car round a week ago and noticed the speedometer's off by about 10 mph... i went through the work receipts kept by the previous owner and it doesn't appear that the rear was changed.

The cluster is white, though, so I'll going to assume the guy changed it on his own. My fuel gauge is off as well. I get a low fuel light with a quarter tank indication. (My fiances 04GT gets a light at an eighth indication) Is it possible to recalibrate the entire unit (temp, fuel, rpm mph etc.)or am I looking at purchasing a new cluster?

I spoke to the dealership and they said they can "reprogram" the cluster but they aren't sure if its going to be successful. If I need to purchase the entire cluster... will calibration be required or is it plug and play? Where can I get cheap ford OEM parts? Thanks guys

I would go ahead and take a pic of your wife;s cluster while the car is at full running temperature. Open up your cluster and remove the needles. Make sure the gas tank is full. It's much easier to get the needle back to where it should be with a full tank.

After that, run your car to full operating temperature and place the needles according to the pic. As for the speedo, that'll be a bit tricky. If you can`t get it spot on, drive next to someone at about 30 mph or whatever and stay even and then push the needle back on at that speed.

As for OEM parts, I generally go with www.newtakeoff.com A lot of Ford on there. Good luck!

If the dealership is telling you it might not be right after they flash it, go to a different dealer. What they should be doing is comparing the current vehicle to the "as built" information in their computer. They should check the overall tire diameter and the rear gears. If everything is the same, when they flash in the as-built information you should be all set. By the way, they shouldn't charge more than 1hr labor for this work. Good luck -Joe

It sounds like they didn't put the needles back on accuratly. What can be done or what I do for customers is take the cluster apart and set the gauges all to 50% then reinstall the needles. Reprogramming the cluster won;t do nothing since the gauges are accurate. It's the needles that aren't.
