Ford: "Another chapter" in 2010 Mustang story to be revealed in Detroit

Boy, Ford really got what it wanted this past week: nonstop chatter about its 2010 Mustang redesign. It only took a new website, a story contest, a film contest and a mess of leaks to build up the hype.

But now that the hype is built up and the damn thing has been revealed, what can you do? Ford has the answer: omit one crucial piece of the puzzle until the next big auto show in Detroit.

And that's exactly what they've done. Sure enough, if you review the SPEED Channel coverage, you'll find that Ford Executive Vice President Mark Fields hinted in the unveiling that the company will "reveal yet another chapter in the Mustang story." Another chapter? I'm not complaining, but how big is this freakin' book?

So now comes speculation over the next "chapter."

The most likely? With the guts already in place, Ford would only need to make a few aesthetic tweaks to pump out the next-gen Shelby GT500.

The most anticipated? Ford has yet to respond to the aggressive aftermarket replicas of its Boss Mustang and speculation for an official model release has grown among enthusiasts in the past year. It is the logical next step, and it would be sweet.

The least anticipated? Ford's Eco-Boost technology for the 2010 Mustang is no secret, but they could quite possibly run off on an eco-friendly tangent and release a green concept. Most enthusiasts are all for development of cleaner, more efficient technologies. But when it comes to their Mustangs, power comes first, and this option is probably the least hoped for.

StangPlanet will keep you updated with any "leaks" if they do happen before January.

What do you think - what would you prefer to see revealed in Detroit?

put my vote up for a green mustang. im sure ford will somehow make it a poor performer while at the same time not having a good enough increase in fuel efficiency. Ideally i think not many people would be opposed to a V6 Mustang hybrid (think V8 power, V6 fuel sipping made even better by electric only sometimes as well as regenerative braking) but somehow i think things wont end up as cool as i hope.

at the same time, i wouldnt mind a GT500 or the like to be unveiled. it would be nice to see Ford put some massive horse power under the 'Power Dome'

My bet is something totally different.. If anyone noticed from the pics during LA Auto Show. One of the 2010 mustangs actually had a shaker hood. Was this a fluke or a hint as to what will be next. I'm betting on a 2010 Mach 1

I would love to see a new Mustang that's not so hideous.
Maybe a grille and light package that ain't so ugly.

That is if Ford's still in business by 2010
