Okay, fine: Ford releases new teaser of the 2010 Mustang center console

Ford recently released yet another teaser image of the anticipated 2010 Ford Mustang. Hold on to your hats, ladies and gentleman, as this one is even more exciting than the shift knob image, as it includes that and more.

The new image shows the shifter as well as other parts of the center console, and the changes from the current s197 are immediately apparent. The first thing to notice is the addition of dual zone climate controls. This is, of course, a welcome addition to any automobile, so seeing that it's coming to the 2010 pony car is a great thing. With it comes a few more controls on the console compared to the Mustang we have now, as expected.

In addition, the emergency/parking brake has been moved down range from its previous location and closer to the console to make room for three new switches. The switches will be the on/off for the hazard lights, traction control and trunk release. This will, of course, be terribly convenient during attempted drifts across three lanes of highway traffic with your trunk open and your hazard lights on.

Overall though, I like the use of high-quality plastics throughout (as I have noted in other writings as being absent from many American cars) and the new console comes out looking nice and clean; I think it's definitely an improvement over the current model.

it does look better than the current one. my parking brake handle sometimes rattles on the highway if my rpms are low. some of these interior plastic pieces are cheaply made, but i guess thats why the mustang is relatively cheap.

Exactly. And that falls in line with the Giugiaro styling too- I'm all for advancement and change, but let's not forget that the Ford Mustang's selling point is its classic American racing styling cues and affordable price tag (generally). Everything else, to me, comes second.

thats the right attitude to have if you are a member of the american public, and a consumer, however, Ford on the other hand, doesnt want you to buy the cheapest mustang. they want you to know the cheap one is there, but actually buy the more expensive one.

i think the sentiment of what im trying to say (and what consumers actually do) can be summed up by this article from autoblog a little over a month ago. it talks about how of the 6000 new camaros that have been preordered, 84% of them are the V8. the V6 is cheaper, more fuel efficient, it looks the same, and its still fun to drive, yet 84% of us, when choosing a pony car, go for the one thats not cheap, just to say we have V8 american muscle- which is a great thing to be able to say if you have the money.
