The shift is on: Ford's teaser photo of the 2010 Mustang shift knob.

Ford recently released yet another teaser photo for the upcoming 2010 Ford Mustang, but this time we aren't seeing any body work. No, this time Ford decided to tease us with the glorious image of its shift knob for the yet-to-be-released Stang.

We can learn from this picture as we can from any other, and the most important bit comes in the form of the numbers 1 through 5 on the knob, which of course means we will be seeing yet another 5-speed sending power to this pony car's wheels. I, for one, would have enjoyed seeing a 6-speed, but who's counting anyway?

Despite the image being only the shifter, there's more to be learned from this; I see finely-stitched leather and quality metal with a chrome finish surrounding the shifter housing. Both of these seem like throw-aways, but the reality is that if every little piece is perfect, the whole car ends up being perfect as well.

In addition to other little things, the 2010 Mustang has what has been absent from many American cars for many years: what appears to be an abundance of high quality plastics on the console and related areas.

To this writer, the new Mustang is shaping up to be a terrific evolution to what was already a solid vehicle. I personally think that the more cues they can take from the 2006 Giugiaro Concept, the better, and it looks like Ford is going in the right direction.

Does this mean there actually is 'forward thinking' somewhere at the Ford Motor Company? Only time will tell, but I certainly hope so, because with their stock performing the way it is, they need this car to be their savior, and I'm happy to say that I have hope.

I have to say I'm getting pumped about the new design. I'm positive that these teaser photos are of a premium GT. I know that it will be above par, but I'm wondering what kind of interior and details will be seen on the V6 model, since it appears that with gas prices so high that's what we all will be driving.

looks good. what i want to see is a stripped down base model GT w/ non-power windows, no stereo, no AC, basic seats, or in other words a cheap GT. for those of use who would rip out these parts anyways for modding, maybe a road warrior edition.
