Remember when we told you about a rumor floating around regarding the release of a
2008 FR500CJ Mustang? Because we haven’t seen a Cobra Jet since the popular 1968 model, we realized that a revival of the CJ may have sounded a bit far-fetched.
Well, nothing verifies rumors more definitively than hi-res
photos and videos.
We knew back in June that the 2008 FR500CJ would feature the most powerful modular engine ever produced by Ford MoCo – the Romeo 605. Of course, the exciting thing about this release is its race-readiness, but the Romeo has to meet NHRA regulations so its power output will be listed as “400hp (est.). Anyone who knows this engine know that 400hp is totally lowballing this machine’s potential.
What we can tell from these new photos and video is that the drag tires are beefy and the ornamentation is abundant. Note the hood pins, CJ graphics, “Powered by Ford” badge, and side louvers. Ford quelled any doubt that this vehicle is drag-ready by including the 5” FR dash tach, roll bar and an antenna delete to top it off.
While we haven’t received official word from Ford MoCo yet, the model will have a run of 50 to be produced in December just in time for Christmas, delivered by Febuary ’09. They’ll supposedly have an MSRP set at $70k.
Check out the photos and video in the reply below. Cheers.
