Veronica Sczkhlemzikhov’s 1964 ½ Mustang convertible - “Hófvarpnir”

Classic Mustangs are rarely seen in used car lots, so enthusiasts must venture out to find them in the most unlikely places. Veronica Sczkhlemzikhov’s wasn’t too unlikely—she found her 1964 ½ drop-top Mustang in a barn outside of Dallas, Texas, where it had rested for 25 years.

Upon first impression, she thought it was a white car, but it turned out to be skylight blue. Apparently, the original paint—still intact—had been essentially turned to chalk while sitting in the barn.

She immediately had the car trailered to Houston after purchasing it and began the restoration. Miraculously, the body was, as she claims, “rock solid,” showing no signs of rust or impact damage with all of the original sheet metal.

She repainted the vehicle, rebuilt the motor, tranny and rear end, replaced the brakes and front suspension, made some electrical fixes and replaced the generator it was running with an alternator.

“I had to chase out all of the lizards and stuff,” jokes Sczkhlemzikhov. “It needed pretty much everything.”

Once she was finished, the car became her daily driver, her grocery getter for the next ten years. Not once did it dump her on the side of the road. No wonder she named her Mustang “Hófvarpnir”— um, she can explain:

“I gave it the Hófvarpnir name because of what I use the car for,” explains Sczkhlemzikhov. “Odin's wife was named Frigg. She had three hand-maidens, Fulla, Hlin, and Gna. Gna was the one that took care of Frigg's worldly affairs, so Frigg gave her the horse, Hófvarpnir, to do all of that stuff, because Hófvarpnir could also fly. Frigg has to make sure that her kids get to school, Odin has supper waiting for him on the table, etc… just like everybody else, so, what better name for a pony than the one that does all of that stuff for a goddess?”

Be sure to hit up Veronica on the boards and compliment her on her amazing classic Stang! Her username is VeronicaScz.
