Mustang shows are coming in by the dozen as the summer progresses, and it’s sometimes difficult to tell one apart from another. Oshkosh, Wisconsin may be stuffed up in the heart of the Midwest, but they were sure to make themselves noticed this past weekend with their annual Planes, Manes and Automobiles show at the EAA AirVenture Museum, home to
over 140 aircrafts including the oldest surviving P-51 Mustang warbird.
The show’s concept is brilliant—fuse two important feats of American engineering: the Ford Mustang and the Mustang P-51 airplane. Participants in the show were given access to a P-51 for photo opportunities and enjoyed a fly-by from two P-51s later in the day. Music was supplied by DJ Dan.
“The EAA grounds make such a wonderful backdrop for a show with all the vintage bi-planes, planes and helicopters—all available to purchase a ride in,” says Ron Kahler, who attended the show. “The show was awesome. There were so many nice Stangs!”
After judging took place, awards were given out by class. The event organizers, as always, were sure to make their trophies stand apart from the norm, featuring a beautiful bronzed pony.
Unfortunately this year, event attendance was down to 225 vehicles, but Kahler attributes this to petrol prices and the fact that the event followed a national holiday. Whatever the reason, we’re sure it’s not a lack of enthusiasm for the Ford Mustang.
