Bold Moves: Shelby kicks off NHRA Weekend with opening of Shelby Corner café in Las V

It’s that time of the year again, folks. Along with the sun, the Mustangs are out and making their way to the tracks. Of course, the NHRA series started up this weekend, so Shelby thought they’d kick off the season with the opening of their newly developed Shelby Corner Café in Las Vegas.

The location is fitting enough: the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, smack dab in the heart of the Shelby Automobiles campus. The café sits next to the well-renowned Shelby Automobiles factory and mod shop, where Shelby Automobiles turns out a variety of Cobras, GT500KRs and Super Snakes every year.

Thursday’s festivities included an NHRA-themed party with an equally appropriate guest list, including Bob Tasca III, Don “the Snake” Prudhomme and NHRA Top Fuel Funny Car Champion Robert Hight. The NHRA drivers met up with their rides in front of the café to fire their nitro-fueled cars up and put on a small show for the party. Perhaps the most pleased in the crowd was the guest of honor himself, Carroll Shelby.

“Shelby Corner Café is a fun place to dine while visiting Carroll’s two favorite places, the track and his factory,” said Amy Boylan, President of Shelby Automobiles in an interview with TeamShelby. “We initially planned to open a place for Shelby employees as the selection of eateries is a bit limited at the Speedway. We had so many requests by enthusiasts to eat here after a museum tour that decided to open the café to the public. On any given day, you might see our chief test driver, production crew, or even Carroll himself eating at the next table.”

The café is the coolest Americana joint you’ve ever seen, boasting 13,000 square feet outfitted with authentic Shelby memorabilia and serving everything from sandwiches to Shelby’s Classic Chili. Ever wanted to host a dinner party around your Mustang? Boylan has the answer…

“The Café will be available for private parties and even has a door to accommodate the entry of a car inside,” said Boylan in the interview with TeamShelby. “We might even add a stop at the Café to the Shelby car delivery program for a private meal.”

As awesome as the café’s concept sounds, don’t get too excited about franchising; Boylan claims the company is keeping the restaurant’s exclusivity intact and doesn’t plan to open additional Shelby Corner Cafés in the country.

Check out additional photos of the restaurant below, and here’s to dining at your friendly neighborhood McDonald’s until you’re able to make the trip to Vegas.
