Many 90s babies and Mustang enthusiasts alike were thrilled to learn of the
release of the Transformers movie in 2007. The storyline may have lacked in content, but most fans of the cult cartoon show
ate up the action.
Not ones to disappoint, Dreamworks have already launched rumors of a much-desired sequel, aptly known as
Transformers 2 at the moment. The follow-up film was apparently set for an extremely tentative release date of June 29, 2009, giving the auto buffs and cartoon geeks alike several years to wallow in their own rumors.
But talk is cheap. Either by accident or through a swift PR move to fuel the flames of sequel discussion, a mysterious flatbed was spotted travelling through Culver City on the outskirts of LA. Its cargo? Three distinct Saleen S281 Barricade Mustang Police cars—all brand spanking new.
While it’s possible that these are, in fact, the same vehicles used in the first
Transformers movie, the possibilities are too succulent, too sensational to pass up.
Back in February, Shia LaBoef, the protagonist in
Transformers,
shed some light on the sequel to British publication Empire Online:
“It’s going to be bad-ass. We’re not making another one unless it is, and Mike is definitely not resting on his laurels — he’s doing insane shit again. And the pre-vizes that I’ve seen… it’s just massive. If the first one was any indicator of how massive massive can be, this is going to blow that out of the water. It’s insane. Mike’s mind was just kind of made for this — it’s amazing. There’s going to be a lot more characterization with the robots, which I’m excited about. […] There’s gonna be new robots on both sides. I can say that the war isn’t over…”
But many rumors regarding plot details and production have since been debunked after
Michael Bay announced on his blog that he may “jump ship” on making a movie that was conceived before the writer’s strike began, which will have a lasting effect on big budget films.
