The Dallas Country District Attorney’s investigation into the Dallas-based Unique Performance has reached an end. The company ‘s executives will face 25 felony charges that have been prepared by the Farmer’s Branch Police Department.
Police confiscated vehicles in November that the established auto shop was selling for $200,000 a pop. Investigators believe that inmates, who were contracted through a company deal with the Texas prison system, tampered with the VINS. According to the reports, it’s not the inmates they’re after—it’s the higher-ups who allegedly gave the orders.
"It's a complicated case, so once they go over all the cases that were presented to them, then they'll decide the appropriate charges to file," explained Cpl. Chad Taylor with the Farmers Branch Police Department in an interview with the local new affiliate CBS 11.
CBS 11 has also allegedly received multiple testimonial letters from inmates claiming they were illegally hired by Unique Performance. One letter even claims the company is an “illegal chop shop” that receives funding from taxpayers and that there is constant related “corruption behind prison walls.”
The case has been presented to the U.S. Attorney’s Office by federal investigators, and federal criminal charges may be pursued.
