It’s crunch time for the blue oval this month, since per usual for the winter months, the company’s Mustang sales are getting crunched! December’s figures were down overall but rose 1,000 units from November. Ford recently released January’s numbers and they fell a considerable 20% from December.
The trend mimics winter automotive sales across the board, but one must also account for the announcement of the change in CAFÉ standards and the broader trend of a drop in sales for the Mustang in the past year.
Dealerships nationwide were able to turn out 9,064 Mustangs in January of 2007, but those numbers dropped to 6,545 this year, expressing a 27.8% decline.
The Mustang has plenty to look forward this year, though. Aside from the usual batch of special-edition aftermarket releases, the blue oval has several planned screen appearances, including a
Bullitt film and the new
Knight Rider series on NBC.
Of course, we hope to see these number turn around as they usually do later in the year as the 2008 Mustang season comes in. StangPlanet will keep you updated about Mustang sales figures as more become available.
