Post The 2010 Mustang: Spy Photos and EcoBoosts

Mustang enthusiasts talk about a lot of things, but the buzzword of the week is actually a year: 2010. There has been a lot of new information shed on what’s to come for the Mustang in 2010, including some killer spy photos and talk of the EcoBoost showing its face earlier than anticipated.

First things first: spy photos. Brenda Priddy’s bunch has been busy, and Brian Williams snapped plenty of quality photos that prove Ford isn’t likely giving up the battle for top spot with Challengers and Camaros down the line. One thing’s for sure: the front and rear fascia will be getting some work in addition to some significant lighting treatments. TheMustangBlog points out the Cobra emblem, GT500 wheels and raised hood in some of the photos—all confirmations that Ford has some major alterations in mind for the 2010 Shelby GT500.

We thought those adjustments were concurrent with everything about the 2010 models—a lot in the looks but not much change to the basics. That’s until rumors began circulating about the EcoBoost engine getting fitted for 2010 models.

With the CAFÉ standards being increased to 35mpg by 2020, Ford has been scrambling to adjust quickly. Motor Trend has reported that one of the V6 offerings for 2010 might include the new Twin Turbo EcoBoost engine they’re already using in a performance version of the Fusion. The EcoBoost is able to shell out 415 horses and can reach the torque output some V8s turn out.

Don’t fear—this isn’t quite the advent of the death of the muscle car. Ford realizes many enthusiasts cringe at the term “eco,” so they’re not shorting the V8 lovers just yet and will still give consumers a choice. In fact, Motor Trend also reports that the 4.6L may receive a much-needed replacement by a newly designed 5.0L for the 2010 models and perhaps a limited number of 2009s.

Unfortunately, the worst news is that none of this speculation has been confirmed from the folks in Detroit! Rest assured, though, as soon as official reports surface, we’ll keep you updated.

Check out more info on the EcoBoost from Ford and all of the spy photos for the 2010 below.
