For those who need an excuse these days to spend $7.00 on a movie ticket—we’ve got several. The Ford Mustang made it’s most famous appearance in the 1967 classic Bullitt, and it’s only been uphill from there.
2007 has been a definitive year for Mustang and—more generally—Ford, on many levels. But if there’s one job I would hate to have at Ford’s offices in Dearborn, it would be in the mailroom—how do they sort through all of the scripts they’ve been getting? Here are a few upcoming definite and rumored appearances the gallant stallion will be making on television and cinema screens in the future:
Knight Rider: If you haven’t heard, the only show whose theme song outshines its plotline,
Knight Rider, is returning to screens for a made-for-TV movie on NBC. Of course, the network couldn’t find an updated F-body to play the co-star, KITT, so the part will be played by a badass Shelby GT500KR. The car is black with silver stripes, and this exclusive pic was obtained by Jalopnik from an LA studio employee involved in the filming. Note: the red hood lights weren’t working that day, so they are Photoshopped. Still, it looks pretty sweet!
I am Legend: Okay, put yourself in this scenario: You’re Will Smith. You are the last survivor of a deadly viral outbreak that has plagued the city of New York. Mutant victims are wandering the city. What do you do? Hop in a GT500 and ride! Will Smith must speed through New York’s empty streets in his white on red Ford GT500 Mustang in order to reverse the virus. Forget the virus part, because the car he’s riding in is exciting enough! If the movie trailer (below) doesn’t get you hype enough, go see the film when it’s released next Friday, December 14th.
Crash and Burn: There is a rumor that the old Shelby GT-H “rent-a-racers” used to be taken out on the track by professional drivers over the weekends. Hertz has now prevented this with the S-197 version by requiring travel information, but could they anticipate the gold and black stallions being taken out for a spin in a full-length motion picture?
Crash and Burn is the story of a band of car thieves infiltrated by one Kevin Hawkins (Erik Palladino), an FBI agent attempting to bust a larger gang. This one’s got everything a gearhead could wish for: violence, sex and speed—in the form of the Shelby GT-H! Check the clip below.
James Bond 22: Alright, I don’t actually know the title, this is supposedly the code name, as it is the 22nd in the series. Filming for the expected ’08 release commences this month. Is it a coincidence that Ford has been searching for the red Mach 1 coupe from the 1971 Bond flick
Diamonds are Forever? Enthusiasts are already anticipating a possible ’09 Mach 1 release. So the rumor has begun: will we see a Mustang once again in this British spy saga? Or better yet, some sort of special edition James Bond 2009 Mach 1? The possibilities are tantalizing, but we’ll have to wait and see...
