Last December, 40 year-old Jennifer Damron was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then, she has undergone a lumpectomy, six months of chemotherapy and 36 radiation treatments. She’s currently “healthy and in remission,” according to the Shelbyville Times-Gazette. When Ford decided to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a Mustang, it dubbed the campaign “Warriors in Pink” with Damron in mind.
Inspired by a recent episode of “Deal or No Deal,” where the show gave away one of the limited edition V6 Mustangs, Damron decided to purchase one herself. For those who aren’t familiar with the “Warriors in Pink” Mustangs, they can be distinguished by the pink rocker tape striping through the black coat, completed with a pink breast cancer awareness ribbon beneath the badging.
Damron’s family is extremely supportive of her newest purchase. "I am so proud of Jennifer for getting through the agony of the cancer diagnosis," said Judy Troy, Damron's aunt, in an interview with the Shelbyville Times-Gazette. "She had a great attitude through all of the treatments and she came through everything with flying colors ... Her birthday [was] on Thanksgiving Day, and we know we have so much to be thankful for ... she deserves the car."
Dealerships have been known to give the special edition “Warriors in Pink” away as donations, but Damron’s was apparently the first to be purchased in the Shelbyville, Tennessee area. After the purchase, Ford made a $250 donation to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in lieu of its 25th Anniversary.
