Ford has always pushed a variety of unique colors that tap into the tastes of Mustang enthusiasts, from Legend Lime to Grabber Orange. Their enormous paint changeover plan, to have feature new colors in 45 percent of Ford, Lincoln and Mercury products by 2009, is impressive to say the least.
So, one can imagine how unhappy many dealers, who have to sell these things, were at the announcement that the 2008 Shelby GT would only come in a Vista Blue/Silver color scheme. Bummer.
Apparently, the letters of disapproval have been piling up in the Dearborn mailroom and popular opinion has produced a decision from the big wigs. 2,500 Shelbys will be released without the Vista Blue/Silver combination.
While that figure reportedly only amounts to less than 10% of the production run, it’s certainly significant for die hard enthusiasts. The first non-Vista Blue Stang has surfaced, and it’s Grabber Orange. This scheme is a safe bet, as the sizeable Grabber Orange crowd will eat these up as soon as they hit the dealerships. We’re already seeing them on eBay.
But expect more madness to surface. Not all of the select 2,500 will be released in the new tint. Apparently, only 217 of the 2,500 misfits will be in Grabber Orange. The ratio of coupes to convertibles with this coat has not been released, but expect a number that will maximize limitability. We’ll keep you updated as more color schemes are revealed.
