second story, same car. i was letting the engine cool by opening the hood just a bit and let it rest, but it's not closed. after 15-20 minutes at 7-11 or something, i forget, but i start driving away not realizing my hood is not closed. so when i get up to speed, 30-35 mph, the hood gets blown up and onto to windsheild and roof, whammoo!! i cant see anything at this point, pull over, close the hood. and discover the damage to the cowl vent. now i am paranoid about closing the hood, always check it before i drive off.
Yeah I think that's got a few people in the past. I've been riding on a couple of occasions where that happened but never in a car that I owned, fortunatly. A guy could get a micro switch and run a little LED to the dash that indicated that the hood was not latched, I've done this for other things like a brakelight disabler switch

You're welcome Mr. Z Hey speaking of "old coots" I was just watching the news (KOMO ch.4 Seattle) and a couple of them got onto I-5 South, South of Olympia going the wrong way on the freeway and killed a guy in a truck tonight I for one think that there should be some type of re-qualification test when you reach a certain age. I'm willing to be tested when I get to thee age that I might pose a risk to other drivers and if I do not qualify then so be it, I get a bike...
